Our second dog, Isabelle, is a full-blood Corgi, with a breeding record and everything.  One thing that surprised me when we got her was that she came (as they say) “microchipped”; that is, she has an RFID tracking microchip installed subcutaneously, so that if she ever gets lost her RFID with our contact info can be read by a vet so we can be reunited.
But what about your kid?  I mean, you definitely have a greater desire to make sure your kid is safe than you do your dog.  But installing a microchip is kind of severe, eh?  And in these days of everyone carting around their own mobile GPS device, it can be gotten around:
With the number of smartphones and tablets soon to exceed the planet’s population, mobile devices are an important part of daily life, and new applications that extend device utility are finding receptive buyers. Securus, Inc. offers products like eZoom, a multi-use tracker that enables users to view the location of children, teen drivers, vehicles and more online or via smartphone 24/7. The eCare+Voice mobile medical alert system keeps seniors and people with special needs connected and safe no matter where they are. Led by Chris Newton, President and CEO, Securus, Inc. isexpanding its market reach via partnerships with top retailers such as RadioShack, Fry’s and Pep Boys.
The Securus eZoom, a light, durable multi-use GPS tracker, can help users locate children, keep tabs on teen drivers and recover stolen items. The small device can be placed in a laptop bag or child’s backpack or installed in vehicles, providing 24/7 tracking capabilities online or viasmartphone to find the unit’s exact location. eZoom allows parents to create SafeSpots (such as schools) for children and to receive notifications when the unit leaves the designated area. eZoomallows parents to receive instant notifications when teen drivers arrive at their destination as well as alerts when teens exceed a preset speed limit. The device also allows children and teens to check in with an instant alert button. eZoom enables users to protect parked vehicles by remotely arming a car with a motion detector and anti-theft alert; users can track the exact location of stolen vehicles for quick recovery, a feature that may entitle users to valuable vehicle insurance discounts. The unique technology behind eZoom is Assisted-GPS, which enhances the performance of basic GPS location time and accuracy and provides fast positioning even when GPS signal conditions are weak.
eCare+Voice, the only phone/GPS locator with the option for wireless inductive charging, puts instant assistance at the fingertips of seniors and others with medical conditions or special needs. With eCare+Voice, users can reach the Securus Emergency Care Center with an SOS button, enabling two-way communication via the unit’s microphone and speaker. The unit provides location tracking and communication capabilities anywhere in the US without requiring a landline or base station connection. Users can talk directly to Emergency Care Center professionals and request assistance for any situation. The Emergency Care Center will notify loved ones of an urgent situation. Caregivers can keep tabs on their loved ones’ location anytime with the Securus tracking website or smartphone app and also receive low battery alerts and notifications when a unit is powered off. This ensures peace of mind while enabling loved ones to retain their independence, wherever they are.
Sound good?  The price for both eZoom and eCare devices: 99.99 + service plan (which range in price depending on how you choose to pay; you can find more information on the SecureUS web site.  And if you get yourself one, be sure to let us know what you think below!
